HOMECOMING
Some of the oldest settlements -post colonization - in the Salt River Valley (Phoenix area) were Mexican American settlements along the The Salt River. Downtown Tempe, Arizona - home to Arizona State University - was one of these settlements. Up until the 1960s downtown Tempe, Arizona was one of the oldest Mexican American barrios in the state of Arizona. Over the course of several decades, through eminent domain initiated for ASU campus growth, Mexican American communities were displaced from downtown Tempe, leaving almost no trace of these once rich and vibrant communities.
DesertArtLAB and Banda Revoluzion created project - HOMECOMING - to honor those lost communities with a march through downtown Tempe at the Arizona State University Homecoming Parade.
